ATLANTA: I was invited by Pr. Sham Navathe of the Georgia Institute of Technology to give a seminar October 31, 1991.


BOSTON: I gave a seminar at CCA Inc. (Computer Corporation of America) in October 1989, invited by Jack Orenstein.


BUFFALO: I gave a seminar at NCGIA (National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis), State University of New York at Buffalo, on March 22, 1991, invited by David Mark. Together we organized a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Cognitive Aspects of Human-Computer Interaction for Geographic Information Systems, in Palma de Majorca, Spain in March 1994. HOUSTON: I was invited in November 2007 to give a talk at the Computer Science Department of the University of Houston, Texas on New Research Directions on GIS.


LAFAYETTE: I was invited to give two seminars on November 9, 1998, thanks to an invitation of Dr Kia Makki, previous director of the Center for Telecommunications Studies of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and one of the key reponsible (with his wife, Dr. Niki Pissinou of the Center for Advanced Computer Studies) of CIKM (Conferences on Information and Knowledge Management) of ACM.

With them, I organized the ACM-GIS 97 (workshop in Las Vegas, NA) and ACM-GIS 98 (symposium in Washington, DC).


MIAMI: I was invited by Dr. David PROSPERI of the Florida Atlantic University to give a seminar on October 24, 2000.

I have also visited Dr. Kia MAKKI and Dr. Niki Pissinou of Florida International University, and gave talks on January 23, 25 and 26, 2001.


MINNEAPOLIS: I was invited by Dr. Sal March of the University of Minnesota to give a seminar in May 1987 (now at Vanderbilt University in Nashville).


MONTREAL: I was invited by Professor Claude Frasson to give seminars at the University of Montreal in September 84 and in January 87.


NEWARK (NJ): I was invited by Vincent Oria to give a seminar at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Computer Science Department in November 2004.


ORONO: I was invited by Dr Andrew Frank (now at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria) to give a seminar at NCGIA (National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis) of the University of Maine at Orono, in October 1989. With Dr Max Egenhofer we organized a NATO conference on GIS interfaces.

Thierry Ubeda spent several months in this university in 1996.


OTTAWA: One of my previous PhD Student, Elyamine Kettal (PhD Subject) is now working at MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.Ottawa, ONTARIO.


PITTSBURGH: I went to the University of Pittsburgh to give a seminar on July 1993 thanks to an invitation of Pr. Shi Kuo Chang of the University of Pittsburgh. Dr Shi Kuo Chang is very active in visual information systems, among others as Editor of JVLC (Journal of Visual Languages and Computing) and one of the key-responsible of several conferences in this domain.

Now, I've got a friend in Pensylvania.


PURDUE: I gave a seminar on November 17, 2000 thanks to an invitation of Pr. Ahmed ELMAGARMID of Purdue University.


QUEBEC: One of my first PhD student, Dr Nadir Belkhiter is now director of the Computing Department of Laval University.

He invited me to give a seminar in August 1992.

I have also good contacts with Research Center for Geomatics in which I send Bruno Tellez several months in 1997.

I gave a seminar at the CRG in October 2008.


SANTA BARBARA: I was invited to give a talk at the University of California at Santa Barbara, NCGIA (National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis) in July 1994, thanks to an invitation of Dr Mike Goodchild and Dr Helen Couclelis.


SEATTLE: Smyth of MicroSoft asked me to be a member of the board of advisors in order to evaluate French and Italian versions of EnCarta from 1996 to 1999.

With Tim Nyerges, we organized a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Cognitive Aspects of Human-Computer Interaction for Geographic Information Systems, in Palma de Majorca, Spain in March 1994. See the proceedings.


WASHINGTON and COLLEGE PARK, MD: I stayed one year in sabbatical at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1986-87 working at the Center for Automation Research with Dr. Hanan Samet and Dr Azriel Rosenfeld, Director of the Center for Automation Research. During the same academic year, I taught GIS in a Master course in the Geography Department under the responsiblity of Derek THOMPSON. With him we wrote the book "Fundamentals of Spatial Information Systems.

I gave lots of seminars in College Park, among the more important in November 1995 at the UMCP Geography Department and at NASA (Goddard Flight Space Center).

My other contact is Mike Kevany, Vice President of PlanGraphics, Inc, and also member of the UDMS board.
