Research topics

Computer Vision and Computer Animation of Characters My works on real or virtual character motion aim at analyzing and extracting important information in real motions of the face or the body, like wrinkles details of faces, style of movement (tired, old, in a hurry, etc.) or emotion (happy, stressed, nervous, proud, etc.) for producing new realistic animations of virtual characters. Following this goal, I've been interested on several topics:

  • easy and interactive motion capture;
  • emotions/expressions/styles extractions and recognitions through analyzes of video or MoCap in order to transfer to virtual characters;
  • animations/parameters transfer from one character to another;
  • procedural and physics-based character animation suitable to be included in a large 3D scene.


From 1998 to 2005: alternative Representations for the efficient rendering and animation of large scenes:

  • Image-Based, Point-based representations;
  • Volumetric texture;
  • Level Of Details and transition between these representations.
