I am a Full Professor in Computer Science at Lyon 1 University (France), affiliated with the Liris research lab. I am the Head of the Database group in the same lab. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo (Canada) in the Data Systems Group (since 2020). I am an IEEE Senior Member (elevated in 2022).
I am the Program Chair of ACM Sigmod 2022, a flagship conference on Data Management.
I am the Chair of the EDBT Executive Board and Association (2020-2025).
Research Interests: I am interested in the active and interdisciplinary areas of Artificial Intelligence (knowledge graphs, graph databases and data integration) and their impact on Data-intensive Systems. Precisely, my current research interests are on the interplay of structured (relational) and unstructured (graph-oriented) data paradigms. In particular, I am currently working on data integration and data curation, query learning and query processing, query log analysis, privacy and security issues for these data models. Fo some of these topics, I am interested in problems that lead to multi-disciplinary applications (such as those for medical data).
Upcoming Keynotes: I am a Keynote speaker at the WWW22 PhD Symposium (26 April 2022) and a Lecturer at the eBiss 2022 International Summer School (4-8 July, 2022) and at the French MDD 2022 Summer school (19-23 June, 2022).
Ongoing grants: My research is supported by the French national research agency under the 2015, 2018 and 2021 ANR (Agence Nationale de la recherche) collaborative research programme. Among the others, I am the Principal Investigator of the ANR Project QualiHealth (2019-2023) and I am a member of the H2020 EU project Qualitop with HCL Lyon. Both projects are multidisciplinary projects applying data management techniques to medical and biological domains. My research is also supported by companies with gifts from Oracle Labs, Neo4j etc. In the past, I was a member of the ANR Project DataCert (2016-2020). In 2015, at my arrival in Lyon, I was also the recipient of the PALSE Impulsion 2016 Starting Grant from the University of Lyon (Programme IDEX) and the PI of CNRS MedClean research project, under the 2016 Mastodons multidisciplinary action on data quality.
Our recent paper on Evaluating Complex Queries on Streaming Graphs (with A. Pacaci and T. Ozsu, Univ. of Waterloo) got the Best Paper Award at ICDE 2022.
