BIM-4-SIM
Generating 3D building models from open data, as input to the physical simulation of urban overheating.

BIM-4-SIM addresses the degradation of urban environments, and urban overheating in particular. Simulating these phenomena requires physical models of urban areas covering both buildings and outdoor spaces, and the availability of suitable urban models is the main obstacle.
The project pursues three objectives: defining a method that automatically generates 3D building models from a large set of parameters; proposing algorithms that extract those parameters automatically from open data, crossing several sources; and implementing dedicated extraction algorithms whose output feeds physical simulation software.
The project is coordinated by Guillaume Damiand (LIRIS) and supported by the city of Villeurbanne.
